How sustainable park lighting becomes part of nature
One metre-high oak and chestnut bollards, with built-in LED lighting, cast their unobtrusive light over shrubs, trees and walkways. This exciting new product will be launched by STRIHL at Elfack 2025.
– We look forward to showcasing our innovative and sustainable solutions, says Stefan Söderström, Marketing Manager at STRIHL Scandinavia.
Founded in 2002, STRIHL specialises in tailor-made concepts for all types of lighting for public spaces.
– It started with street lighting. The company has grown considerably, and we have broadened the range, says Stefan Söderström.
Today, STRIHL also offers sports and exercise lighting, industrial and area lighting, and decorative park and urban lighting.
Complete solutions
Headquartered in Fjärås, south of Gothenburg, Sweden, the company specialises in energy-efficient lighting and offers complete solutions, for both indoor and outdoor lighting.
– For sports field lighting, for example, this means that we supply masts in triangular truss columns. We manufacture the masts ourselves, in six-metre sections, here in Sweden and from Swedish raw materials, Stefan emphasises.
– Then we assemble everything, including foundations and floodlights, at the customer’s site. We do 40-50 such installations a year, all over the Nordic region. It has become a big business for us.
Bollards inspired by nature
At Elfack 2025, STRIHL will profile two variants of wooden bollards, called Eye and Bosco, a completely new type of lighting for paths and parks.
– Bosco is made of wood (chestnut), rustic in style with rounded shapes. Eye is made of oak and has a minimalist design in slightly straighter shapes. Both have an energy-efficient LED light source and great IP54-rated luminaires, which can withstand harsh weather conditions, Stefan Söderström explains.
– These bollards have a fairly discreet appearance. They kind of blend in with the surrounding nature. And the natural material fits in well with our sustainability vision. We have already met with great interest: the bollards have been delivered to two municipalities, Borås and Kungsbacka, and we are in dialogue with others.
At the stand, STRIHL will also be showing its own LED-inserts for street lighting.
– With the inserts, we can easily and time-efficiently convert an existing, older luminaire. We take out the inner unit and replace it with an LED. It is an energy-saving concept we have developed and sell in quite large volumes today.
Meetings with key people
Since its earliest years, the company has chosen to exhibit at Elfack.
– This is where we meet key groups such as municipal street and leisure managers and many other customer groups, Stefan says.
– For us, the fair is super-important for building relationships. And to do business, of course. Since we are dealing with large projects, we usually say that if we get a single deal, participation in the fair will pay off. And so it has proved.
Elfack is Northern Europe’s largest trade fair for the entire electricity and energy industry. The trade fair will take place from 6 to 9 May 2025 at the Swedish Exhibition & Congress Centre in Gothenburg.
